The Mentalist 1x13

...aaaaand we're back! Last episode I was harping on Jane not taking everything seriously and I know that's essentially his character trait but I was waiting for more... substance to the shiny y'know? Like the one with the psychic?

Once in a while I need to see the core damage of a character so I could relate. It's why it took me a while to really get Charlie Crews (Life), I mean I knew he was damaged and raging but he was so good at obfuscating that it wasn't until Charlie's confrontation with Ray that I finally got him. It was like... a veil being lifted off my eyes.

And it's almost similar to what I've experienced in this episode... not to that great extent but I thought I finally saw one of Jane's buttons. I think the excuse he said to the crappy father was just that, an excuse. He really wanted to tell the father off and he used the opportunity to do so pretending it's a pretense but it's really not. I think he was really steamed how the father treated his daughter.

Also... I guess he doesn't have issues with sons but daughters so maybe last week was in character in that if it isn't his issue he's not going to be affected much.

But, also, show? Are you trying to make me a Jane/Van Pelt shipper? Because seriously, dude. Going to a small town and that whole thing with 'college professor, fiance' thing? Hahaha.

So... Russians are the new favorite evil, now, huh? And do all LA parties sponsored by criminals have one template? Women in bikinis and women snorting coke? Life had that in one episode (although I think it edged The Mentalist a bit in that that party had topless women walking around *g*).

Yeah. I noticed Jane was in Crews-Reese territory.

Gah. FNL season ender gutted me. I still don't have the words to... the show is just fantastic and awesome.

See, that episode made me even more of a Rigsby/Van Pelt shipper! They're so adorable. I love lesser character romance!

I wish I could get behind that pairing more but Rigsby is still a cipher for me. He's just... well, there. He doesn't have a distinguishing characteristics other than being devoted to Van Pelt.

I wish they'd do more on Rigsby.

It's really the strangest thing, when this first started out I disliked Van Pelt because of the way she was first portrayed but I realized the more I watched the show the more I've come to like her and... well, I love the way Van Pelt pushes at Jane. Unlike the other members of the team who seem to be satisfied to just follow Jane along.

I like that she questions him.

I think I'd be into Rigsby/Van Pelt more if they had more scenes and it went beyond Rigsby's puppy dog devotion.

Hmm...I really need to get into Fringe... and yes, The Mentalist really does seem more paint by the numbers... My main enjoyment lies in Simon Baker's performance than anything else.

I used Photoshop CS3 and basically raided every icon tutorial about making animated gifs, here is one site that I used to learn

Animations are fun! That 'in sync' moment was taken from 'Tear Asunder', the second episode. They're in sync as early as the second episode! I plan to animate all the moments of synchronized partnership I can find!

I enjoyed this also, and come to think, it really is taking a page out of Charlie's book to do this!

Oh gosh actually that made me so mad at Jane. Of course he had ulterior motives for saying all that stuff, but man. If I had been Van Pelt I would have clocked him one but good. He didn't have to go in that particular direction to make their ruse work. :P I guess it's just meant to be more evidence that Jane is not necessary a "good guy." He's still got personality issues and just chooses to display them in ways that he can later make excuses for. Kind of.

LOL I swear as soon as we met the Russian mob guy I was like, "Oh hai, Roman doppelganger!" *eyeroll* Do the writers for those two shows eat lunch together? lol

Hah. Actually the whole time I was thinking how Van Pelt would have hit him given the chance. Basically I just love the way she's always questioning him and is never satisfied with his answers unlike Cho and Rigsby.
